I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport, about 74,000 miles on it. I have taken very good care and have had the scheduled maintenence done on time every time. I took a 2 hour trip last month and noticed (with my front windows down) that I hear a whistling noise. I know it's not from the back, but from the front. A local tire shop diagnosed it as bad CVs (hard to argue with that, I thought), and replaced the front axles from the differential splines out. Well I started noticing a clunking/popping noise while steering out of the driveway the other day and seems to be getting worse by the day. It almost sounds like rocks in a hubcap. Its an 89 XJ with 225,000 miles. The problem is at its worst at low speed turns (right or left) or turning from a stop and seems to be coming from the passengers side. Were you able to duplicate this rattle/clunk yourself by trying to shake the door itself with the Jeep parked? I think I have the same noise, but only does it on bumpy roads. I've tried wiggling the door myself by grabbing the door handle and jerking it around - no noise. I then tried grabbing the spare and doing the same thing - no noise. I started getting clunking from front end after a few hundred miles, turned out to be the Teraflex sway bar links, I regreased and got another couple hundred miles, repeated for 4k miles and called Tera flex this morning.
